College of Business (LCB) hosted another talk yesterday for
its students who are taking up twinning programmes at a number
of universities at the United Kingdom.
Nina Jalaluddin, a representative from Northumbria
University was on hand to brief the students on matters such
as accommodation, tuition fees and study environment when they
were abroad.
She also talked on the importance of choosing the key areas
of interests prior to the students sitting for their ''A'
levels.
According to Nina, the subjects they choose to pursue for
their 'A' levels would have bearings on the undergraduate
programmes they want to pursue in the future, especially in
the UK.
Although, there are over 600 degree courses available for
students to choose from, the subjects they take and the grades
they obtained in their 'A' levels, will facilitate them when
pursuing an undergraduate programmes.
She also emphasised the importance of choosing the right
university. She elaborated that a traditional university
campus would mainly serve a better research center for
students pursuing a humanities or social science subject.
Meanwhile for vocational courses, such as computing and
business, she said, it would be more advantageous to pursue
studies at a polytechnic or colleges that has been upgraded to
a university level. The talk which was mostlyfor students from
LCB who will be pursuing their studies in UK in various
Business related courses was also attended by some students
from PDS School.
LCB's student, Amin Sidek, 27, who will be leaving on
September 12, views the opportunity to continue his studies in
Northumbria University o be a form of 'redemption'.
He has chosen to specialise in a degree course in
International Business Management degree and hopes to find
employment in the UK when he completes his degree next year.
Meanwhile, Hj Muhd Amalul Arifin Hj Sulaiman, 23, is in his
second year, will be leaving at a later date to save up on
expenses.
He has been in LCB and has since finished his foundation
course and will be going to Northumbria University as part of
his twinning programme.
He is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in
Business in International Trade.
Northumbria University is located in the Midlands of the
United Kingdom.
Previously, LCB has hosted talks by Kensington College of
Business, University of Glamorgan and the British High
Commission in the sultanate.
