Local business school attract good number of foreign students

Monday, February 11, 2008

MORE and more foreign students are coming in to Brunei to take advantage of the opportunity to earn a British qualification at just a fraction of the cost, observed a private college.

Since its inception five years ago, Laksamana College of Business (LCB) has seen its student base grow to more than 400 per cent, with a recent noted interest from foreign students enrolling into the college as well.

LCB has earned a reputation for offering an estimable British standard tertiary education in Brunei, attracting not only locals but also foreigners to earn a British qualification with them.

"We get direct students from Nepal, Indonesia, Malaysia, India and Nigeria," Sivarajah, LCB's chief operating officer, said in an interview with The Brunei Times.

Attracting foreign students to study in Brunei will help generate income for the local economy, Sivarajah said. "This is good for Brunei."

To cater to the growing academic need for business courses in the country, LCB has introduced a new MoE (Ministry of Education) accredited diploma: Cambridge International Diploma in Business. The new diploma course will allow a direct entry for O Level graduates a pathway to obtaining a business-related degree.

"The courses that we offer can lead to more young entrepreneurs in Brunei, and help the private sector ... Students that go into our professional pathway (not accredited by the MoE) are those who are particularly interested to work for the private sector or wishing to gain the necessary knowledge on how to run a business," Sivarajah explained.

LCB offers foundation, diploma and twinning degree courses in Business so students could reap better job or business opportunities.

The courses offered at LCB will help students to demonstrate an understanding of key business concepts.
