NEW graduates were urged not to rest on their laurels but
continue to strive for life-long learning, as future career paths are shaped by
"sacrifices" made to acquire knowledge.
Minister of Health Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman yesterday said that continuous professional development is "a must" to enable graduates in contributing to the country.
Speaking during the Laksamana College of Business graduation ceremony for 2007/2008, he said that graduates should not only concentrate on academic brilliance, but also cultivate a sense of civic duty and responsibility.
"You must give back to society what society has bestowed upon you," he told more than 60 diploma and certificate graduates during the graduation ceremony at the Rizqun International Hotel.
He added that His Majesty's Government sees the private sector as close partners with similar objectives, where private education institutions such as Laksamana College of Business are special to the nation because it assists the government to train youths and provide them with the opportunity to pursue higher education.
He said that educational institutions should continue expanding access to higher education to more qualified Bruneians to develop quality human resources in the country.
"However, this should not be done at the expense of quality because we shall be judged by the products we release to the market at the end of the day," he added.
Also present at the graduation ceremony was the representative of the British High Commissioner to Brunei, Andrew Heseltine. (NJA1)
