Studying at Laksamana College of Business

With the increasing need to develop comprehensive Business knowledge coupled with the positive outlook growth of Business in Brunei, students these days are looking into related courses that could lead them to better job opportunities in the future.

The entry requirements into some academic institutions are getting competitive than it used to be due to the greater demand for some courses that grant limited seats at one time.

Now, with the establishment of Laksamana College of Business in subsidiary of Kensington College of Business, London, students could have range of choices in fulfilling their dreams to pursue one of the most important aspects in life that is education.

Laksamana College of Business (LCB) was established in 2003 as Business Course provider and is a partnership between Abdul Razak Holdings and Kensington College of Business, London.

University Foundation Course and BA Year 1 offered by LCB are accredited by Brunei's Accreditation Council. According to the Administration Manager, Mr. Sivarajah, LCB offers a range of courses from Academic to Professional disciplines.

There are three types of courses in the academic field. These are the University Pre-Foundation Course that provides opportunity for 'O' Level school leavers to build a bridge towards British Degree Qualification. This one year course will asses students based on coursework and exams, which prepare them towards university learning experiences.

The second is a one-year University Foundation course designed by a group of Universities which guarantee successful LCB students to the Year 1 degrees in Accountancy, IT, Travel & Tourism, Marketing, Business etc.

Thirdly, the BA Common Year 1 programme which has been designed to give entry into second year degree in the fields of IT, Accountancy, Business Studies, Computing, Surveying or Marketing. This will give students a further year to study these subjects before making an informed and final choice of degree course.

Under the Professional Qualifications, there are several courses offered before sitting for the final year university degree which comprise of Certificate and KCB's Diploma. The KCB's Diploma is divided into three stages: Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Higher Diploma. Students will only undertake a six-month intensive period for each abovementioned programme. All the courses are available at a full and part time basis.

The Certificate course has been designed to give a foundation in the most important areas of business related subjects. The course focuses on both knowledge and skills which are highly practical. It qualifies students for entry to other specialist professional qualifications such as CIM, AIA, ACCA, ABE, CAT, and CIB. Students without the required credentials to start professional qualifications such as ACCA can take this certificate which is recognised by the professional bodies.

According to Laksamana College Director, Hj Suhaimei Hj Besar, they are planning to establish as a large private institution in the Sultanate offering a diversify courses to enable more choices for future generation.
