Private colleges viable alternative for local students

In addition to institutions such as Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) and Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB), private colleges such as the Laksamana College of Business (LCB) are still a viable option for students who wish to pursue their studies at higher level.

LCB not only prepares us for the real world but also gives us the impression of how a real university life scenario is like, I guess so we won't get culture shock when we further our studies outside LCB, Abdul Hafiz Hj Md Daud told The Brunei Times.

Abdul Hafiz Hj Md Daud was awarded the best student for June 2008 in the BA Common Year 1 course. Still in disbelief, he didn't expect at all to receive the best student title among other students in his batch.

Reflecting back on my past, I never was that someone who has that potential to be one of the best students, let alone in LCB but only can dream that one day my picture will be hung at the best student board. Throughout my days in LCB, it's always been a pleasure to be taught by qualified lecturers and with sufficient facilities. I believe that hard work, sacrifices, honesty and faith keep me focus and grounded and hence led to a satisfying results, he said.

Another student, Kristy Kam Voon Ying, graduated with the Best Student title in KCB (Kensington College of Business) Higher Diploma in Business Management December 2007.

During my time in LCB, I learned a lot from the lecturers because they are very professional, very knowledgeable as well as qualified in teaching not only theories but also about the real life situations. I find whatever they taught very helpful as I can pick the knowledge to apply into my future life, Kristy Kam Voon Ying told The Brunei Times.

LCB really helps me to have the opportunity to pursue my studies to a higher level from degree and eventually to master degree so that I can establish something in the future, she added.

Jerome Tan Tzek Soong, another graduate of KCB Higher Diploma in Business Management, told The Brunei Times that the teaching methods used by the lecturers helped him to open his eyes and see how it really is in the real world.

Astonished with the announcement for the Youth Icon Award 2007/2008, Tiong Yun Sen expressed his gratitude to the LCB for making him who he is today.

I can't really go into sixth form thats why I joined LCB and it was not a regrettable decision indeed. I learned so many things during my time in LCB; I learned to be more professional and disciplined, he said.
